Papaya salad

Green papaya salad with a Filipino twist

Papaya salad
Papaya salad is fresh, appetizing and has a bite from the chili.

In Thailand I tried the Thai street food and I found Som Tam, green papaya salad. It’s very refreshing with a lovely bite. It inspired me to come up with my own version.

Ingredients

1 medium size green papaya
2 limes, squeeze the juice
2 stalks of coriander
1 handful of ground peanuts
2 chilis
2 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp fish sauce
a drop of sesame oil
1 tsp bagoong (shrimp paste)

Procedure

– Peel off the skin and cut the papaya in half, scrape out the seeds carefully.

– Shred the papaya and place in a mixing bowl.

– Add all the ingredients.

– Mix the salad and balance the acidity, sweetness and saltiness.

Bagoong (shrimp paste) is optional.
